How Symterra’s Technology Works

Symterra’s bird deterrent system uses electromagnetic technology to keep birds away. Here are five things you need to know about how it works and how to get started.

Symterra’s bird deterrent system uses electromagnetic technology to keep birds away. Here are five things you need to know about how it works and how to get started.

1. Birds have a unique biological navigation system

To understand how Symterra’s technology works, knowing a little bit about bird biology will help. Birds have a unique biological navigation system that provides them with an “internal GPS” that detects the magnetic field generated by the Earth’s core. To do this, they rely on a few key receptors:

Special Proteins

Special proteins in their eyes help birds to see navigationally.

Mineral Crystals

Mineral crystals in birds’ beaks record magnetic intensity.

2. Symterra influences birds with an electromagnetic signal

Symterra’s technology harmlessly interacts with any bird’s navigational system. When flying over your property, an electromagnetic “force field” tells the bird that your area or structure is off limits — and that they simply can’t land there. Unharmed and unaware of any disruption, the birds continue their search for a good place to roost, nest, or forage.

A key aspect of this approach is permanence. While birds can adapt to most physical deterrent measures like netting or spikes, they can’t change their biology. Once your property is protected by Symterra, the receptors in their eyes and beaks will always sense the electromagnetic signal.

3. The system includes just a few simple components

The Symterra bird deterrent system is made up of components that can be adapted to just about any structure. They include:

  • A durable power supply that converts electricity into an electromagnetic pulse.
  • Double-insulated wires that carry the pulse from the power supply to a series of capacitors.
  • Capacitors that potentiate the pulse and form an 120Hz electromagnetic barrier.
  • Corrosion-resistant wiring and hardware that can daisy chain up to 100 capacitors per power supply.

4. Training resources are here to get you up and running

Our team has put together easy-to-follow videos to help you on your Symterra journey. They cover installation, safety, and everything in between, so you can set up your system with confidence.

5. Installation support is available when and where you need it

Our system is designed to be set up by anyone, but some installations are trickier than others. If you need hands-on support, there are a few ways to get in touch with an expert.
